Last one - this one brings me up to date!

Well just finishing up week 4 and starting week 5 as I write this…things are going smoothly.

We had a rough tender day in Cozumel last cruise but managed to sail with all onboard. Unfortunately, for the rest of the season (except this cruise) we are tendering there weekly. Tendering for those of you that don’t know is when we use ship or shore side boats to bring our passengers to/from the ship itself as it is not docked alongside a pier. The tendering operation is a very taxing one on manpower and safety.

As I am sure you can imagine, a ship of our size, on the water, still moves. Tenders coming alongside to collect or drop off passengers are moving as well. Two stable but moving platforms connected by a ramp (called a brows or gangway) makes for a challenging time – even in calm seas. If you couple that with the fact that we must establish a safe/secure area on shore, which also must be manned with personnel, as I said, a taxing operation when in place. But…the passengers are here to have a good time and nothing will stop us at providing them with it.

I am going back to nights at the tail end of this cruise, for the first two weeks of Spring Break. I am hoping that they are restful weeks and that the younger generation that usually sails with us at this time of year are well behaved…..come on…one can always hope can’t they?

I am looking forward to going ashore when on nights and possibly taking in a tour or two. There are many interesting and wonderful things to do on this route / in these ports.

Well today is Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and as per the norm, it is raining. I have been trying to convince the passengers that it doesn’t count…it’s hot water. They are asking for umbrellas, I am offering shampoo. They are a good bunch this cruise (most of them)…and again, a significant number of fellow Canadians.

My best wishes to all of you – please take care and keep in touch.
